Tldr: if you have space for it, and patience, and robot vacuum cleaners, it's great. You just have to slow down and work with them at their pace, not yours. This has worked in the past, and I hope it will again. This is based on the advice from the company. There has been some resistance and floor deposits, which we patiently place into the Genie. We stopped cleaning it, hoping that they'd move to the clean Genie. Recently, the box finally arrived at its destination next to the Genie. The older cat instantly abandoned the Genie, and all three cats were using the analog box. I put down a normal litter box near where they were peeing, so I could gradually move it to the Genie, which took months. Then there was a lot of peeing on the floor. It's mostly unused now that they've taken over the whole house. Then one of our first set of cats died, and several months later, we adopted another set of sisters, and bought another Genie for upstairs. We had aluminum foil on the floors for ages before she finally gave in. There was a long period where one of them was pooping in the living room. We started out with a pair of sisters, and got the first device when they were probably several years old. Getting the cats to accept it has been a process. Unless you vacuum regularly, or have robots to do it for you (I don't know how we lived without them, because we both have physical problems that make that job too painful.) The cats can track them up carpeted stairs and into your bed. Third, the little plastic pellets get everywhere. We keep ours in the laundry room, and usually remember to keep the door shut. Second, the scoop isn't perfect, and it tends to leave tiny bits of poo behind. Even in a big house, you can hear it, though you learn to tune it out. The downsides are numerous, but when all the cats accept the unit, it's great. The upside is obvious, clean litter, no hassle. As the dirty water flows out, it softens the poop, and then it gets ground up and sent out the drain.Īfter that, hot air dries the plastic litter thoroughly. The bowl basically becomes a washing machine. Then clean water comes in, and mixes with cleaning solution that comes from a cartridge. When it runs, first there's an arm that scoops all the poop while the bowl turns. You can set it to clean at certain times, or after every visit. They have plastic pellets for litter, and an optical sensor that sees when a cat goes into the bowl.
